I was off writing my blogs for a while…..too many deliverables and demands on my time, kept me away from my blogs. But boy I missed it. My blog has been my platform to channel and share my thoughts. And now I am back!
Today I want to share my thoughts about something that really helped me stay calm and grounded at a time where I wished I had 48 hours in a day: art. I have heard a lot of about it and I know there are professionals who practice it. But mine is personal experience. During these last couple of months, whenever I was stressed, I would take out anything….literally anything paintable at home and would sit down for 30 mins with it and my acrylic paints and brushes. After 30/ 40 mins, I would realize I have calmed down, ready to take on the next set of deliverables….ready to conquer the world. And on the side, I have the prize of a beautiful artwork.
If you go to Google and search for Art Therapy, you get 90,60,00,000 results and searching on the advantages of Area Therapy, we get some Marion of the below 4:
- Allows one to communicate thoughts and feelings that one finds difficult to put into words.
- Help one make sense of things and understand themselves better.
- Give one a safe time and place with someone who won’t judge
- Help one find new ways to look at problems or difficult situations.
All my life I have seen that Art calms me down and makes me productive. While I have taken Art Classes and gone through the rigor of pursuing a Diploma, what I loved the most is picking up anything from the junk drawer or picking up a dried leaf or rock from the garden and paint them. But now I am big believer of Art Therapy and while we usually talk about this as a tool to help specially abled people, I think practicing some form of Art is absolutely imperative for all. I am glad I got introduced to it, unknowingly. Doesn’t matter what the quality of the artwork is….it has its benefits on mental health.
