A Little Bit of Me

Hi!

I hated my name. Alekhya Sengupta Banerjee. 3 words, 23 letters! Having to write my full name on every worksheet, every exam, every document was a daunting task. However, I didn’t just hate the length of my name, I hated the very name “Alekhya.” I always asked my parents, why? Why this name? Why not something more “common” or “usual”? As I grew older, I realised I’m not the only one who hated their name. That’s when I started loving it. Alekhya, in Bengali, means a depiction which may be unwritten. It has a deeper meaning, and now when I think about it, I find it interesting. What I love most about it is that it’s unique, rare and special. As Phoebe Buffay once said, “It’s fun, it’s different, no one else has a name like that.”

For people who don’t already know me, I love dancing Bharatanatyam, playing the piano, and doing art – all of which I’ve been doing for about 10 years now. I’ve always wanted to start writing a diary, but I never did. In fact, I have about 10 completely empty diaries stacked up on my table, hoping to be written on. Well since writing diary entries has become nearly a pipe-dream, blogging is my new alternative. The reason I started this blog is for you and for me, to understand myself better – my thoughts, opinions and perspectives.
